Forum: Active Network Defense

Information Operations is often categorized as being either offensive or defensive. The defensive side can be further subdivided into passive and active techniques. Research is needed to better understand the current state of Active Network Defense (AND). The panel will address the following topics from a technical, legal, and ethical point of view: Address the definition of AND and why it is important part of the defensive toolset. Examples of initiatives related to defense actions will be addressed, to include the feasibility of a traceback capability. Address the legal, policy, and authorization issues that impact AND. Current state-of-the-art capabilities for AND. This would include efforts from academia, the R&D community, and industry. Identify where additional research is needed to focus future activities supporting CND.
