Panel Topic:
When the dust settles from the 2018 election, what will we see? Fewer reports of failed voting machines, because of the move to paper ballots, but still problems in some states. But perhaps more unknowns from internet voting, used by at least some voters in more than 30 states. Shorter or longer lines from electronic pollbooks? Greater confidence from risk limiting audits? How will voter confidence be reflected in the widespread reports of Russian interference in the 2016 election? More technology isn't always better - or worse. This talk, coming immediately after the election, will survey the technologies in use in elections, their benefits and risks, discuss what's next, and how technologists can (and should!) be involved.
